I’m in LOVE with Country Chic furniture

As a designer I get these urges and emoticon towards furniture! Weird I know but it is what it is…

Anyway right now I’m in my country chic mood! So to answer your questions about what Country Chic style means, I wrote this post:

The pieces of furniture used in Country chic style are either old and antiques with lots of signs of wear and tear or new but distressed  to achieve the appearance of an antique.

In other words in country chic style, it’s OK if the furnishing is old with wrinkles and marks. NO MAKE-UP REQUIRED :)

Typically furniture pieces have heavy layers of paint applied throughout the years or in case of new pieces just painted and then the top coat is sanded to mimic the vintage look.

Cotton and linens are typically used in upholstery.

Both fabric and paint colors tend to be white and/or faded pastel colors to accomplish the cottage/country look.

When I first got a sample of below  end tables I immediately fell in love. Although they’re not really old like the ones pictured in the photo collage but they came very darn close.

I love the detailed legs and the distressed finish, the simplicity and modesty as well.

Most of all how they feel like antique shop finds!

Tips on how to create affordable Nautical Decor

The nautical design reminds me of vacation time… I get relaxed walking into a nautical decorated room even if the beach is far far away!

One of the cool factors about this theme is that it’s very easy and coast effective to pull it together.

For example:

1. You could paint all walls in your room white except for an accent wall where you paint navy blue. On that wall you could feature something like the life ring clock I have on WUSLU today or you could trace a big anchor (or no anchor) shape and paint it white.

2. You can group 3 or more nautical themed photos or drawings. Photos of ships, charts, ships architectural drawings will convey the message:

This is really cool because you could find charts for your area to personalize the art work or you could just find one big detailed chart and cut it into say 9 “same size” frames.

Group 3- Simply use photos that you took for you and your family when you were at the beach, something like:

3. Red and white strips or navy blue and white strips could be used in forms of paint, framed fabric on the walls or just accent pillows and they will definitely help delivering that nautical feel:
